Butterfly Trail Stewardship
Committee Chair: Kris Ethington
Since 2009, the club has partnered with the San Clemente State Beach Park interpreter to help restore and preserve the pollinator gardens along Butterfly Trail, a recognized overwintering site for monarch butterflies. The club helps fund planting and educational outreach projects along with California State Parks Foundation and the San Onofre Foundation, a non-profit State Park cooperating association, on Butterfly Trail. Park personnel, club members, and San Clemente High School environmental science students, with their teacher, volunteer for seasonal planting and maintenance workdays on the Trail..
The successful award winning community stewardship project has become a valued outdoor classroom for environmental education. In May, 2013, the Club helped fund and provide volunteers for the inaugural Butterfly Education Day - an educational community celebration for Butterfly Trail - sponsored by the San Onofre Foundation.
